Almost every bad thing that happens to an ordinary person's digital life comes through an account, not a device. Nobody hacks your laptop — they log in as you, because a site you forgot about was breached in 2019 and you used the same password there. This is the session that fixes that, and it is the one to come to if you only ever come to one. We print recovery codes before we change anything, because this is also the clinic where people lock themselves out of their own email.
